The Morning Swim Efficiency

I love working with successful executives. As an executive coach and consultant, I’ve found that people who strive to excel at their work and to achieve goals in their lives make the best clients. They are self-starters who are self-directed: there’s little or no need for follow-up or holding them accountable. They do this themselves as a matter of course. Quite often, however, this exemplary work ethic can result in fatigue and exhaustion.

I frequently see executives who “burn the candle at both ends,” as the saying goes, and fail to deal adequately with stress, anxiety, and the pressure of a high-powered environment. As humans, it almost goes without saying, we require regular rest and relaxation as well as inner peace to perform at a high level. When burned-out executives do not operate at peak efficiency, their leadership skills lose their sharpness, and their teams suffer the consequences.

Here are a few quick tips for terrific “can do” leaders who are beginning to unravel under the weight of it all.

Take note of morning rituals that bring you peace of mind and physical rewards. A recent client of mine recently added a morning swim to his daily routine and now -- following a healthy, invigorating dip in the pool – the energized executive greets each day more cheerfully. Are there tasks, assignments, and obligations that can be off-loaded to a staffer, or even handled with automation, logarithms and software tools? An examination almost always yields up matters that can be supervised by the executive but tasked to others.

Reconnect with your “Why.” High-achieving executives usually commence with a strong mission/value proposition. Yet over time their overriding goals and vision can fade from view – the cliché is that “you can’t see the forest for the trees” – the victim of being harried or deeply fatigued. Reawaken your “Why.”

Top-performing executives are quite literally “worth their weight in gold” to an organization. Hire a coach and consultant. Contact me for more tips and take care of yourself! (713) 208-9380
